Why World Bank Lies About Poverty
World Bank's latest report on poverty says 56 million Indians slipped below the poverty line in 2020 because of COVID-19. A look at the fine-print in the report suggests that the World Bank has undercounted India's poor. In fact, the poor across the world has been systematically undercounted by the World Bank because of its ridiculously low poverty line, which is not even enough to fetch two square meals a day. The global financial institution does this to justify the neoliberal economic policies that it enforced on nations across the world in the 1990s.
