REPLUG: International Labour Day – A Day to Resolve to Struggle
As the world celebrates Labour Day, NC replugs an old video of Urdu poet Jaun Elia's poem "Ailan-e-Rang" based on the workers' general strike that took place in Chicago on May 1, 1886. It was this struggle that resulted in the 8-hour work day.
Elia's poem portrays that historic day which served as the foundation of the modern workers' movement. The Chicago strike is still remembered by workers' unions across the world, and is a source of inspiration for those fighting for a world free of exploitation.
